I arrived at Loch Lomond on Tuesday afternoon to register and to visit Larry Watson on the Titleist van; he is over from America for the next couple of tournaments and has been working with me for a while to find a putter that is perfect for me. I took one I had used in Pulman's golf day on Monday to shoot 63 and had another made with a few minor alterations. The Titleist van was a hive of activity as Bob Vokey was in the workshop making and altering wedges as well as Larry with the putters and the other boys.
I played an early practice round on Wednesday with Robert Rock and Jarmo Sandelin. It is always an experience to play with Jarmo and we laughed most of the way around, it was also good to hear about his foundation in Sweden and what he is doing to try and prevent bullying. After an early lunch I spent the afternoon on the range, chipping area and putting green.
The course is the firmest I have ever seen it, which is even more surprising after our recent wet spell and was well manicured. The greens however were very bobbley and looked, as though they may have been affected by the weather.
This week I was drawn with Mardan Mamat and Jean-Francois Remesy. Thursday I had a lazy morning and then made my way to the course for lunch and then went through my practice routine before my 12.40pm tee time. I feel like a broken record but I hit the ball very well again but made a few mistakes and didn't manage to get up and down. I had an up and down front nine of four bogeys and three birdies to turn in +1, the back nine though I had three bogeys and a double to finish with a round of 77 (+6).
Friday was an early start; I bogeyed the first but then had good birdie chances on the next five holes, but didn't hole any of them! Three birdies and one bogey on the back nine with a handful of other missed opportunities added up to a round of 70 (-1). Unfortunately this wasn't good enough as the cut came at one under.
I've spent the weekend resting at home and will spend this week practising and getting ready for the Deutsche Bank in Hamburg next week.
