And then there was one...

I spent Monday morning doing laundry and drying my clubs before catching up on some emails after a very long day on Sunday. I went to the course and registered on Tuesday and then went to the Titleist van to get my clubs regripped. In the locker room each of the previous winners at the Disney event has a plaque with their name on a locker, Payne Stewart won the event in 1983 and they have a locker filled with his memorabilia with a Perspex door, to honour his memory.

On Wednesday I went to the golf course in the morning and spent the afternoon relaxing. My Mum and friend John arrived from home to visit me for a week and they were ready for bed after a long day of travelling.

Because it was Disney's tournament they gave all of the players passes to their parks, as well as offering a number of activities, such as breakfast with the characters and fishing trips. We played on the Palm and Magnolia courses at Disney's Shades of Green resort, every morning we drove through the gates that said "where dreams come true" but instead of going to the Magic Kingdom I took a quick right to the golf course. The format was a Pro-Am for the first two days, but it was different as there was one Pro and one amateur and each day you swapped amateur partners. The amateurs got to add their nett team scores for each day together. So you played one day on each of the courses and the weekend they were just playing on the Magnolia. The Magnolia was the main course and it had the seven dwarfs made out of topiary trees along the side of the first tee, as well as Lady and the Tramp next to the putting green and Goofy at the clubhouse. All of the markers and a bunker on the 6th were Mickey Mouse shaped.

This week's event benefited the Children's Miracle Network (CMN), which is the alliance of premier children's hospitals. Every year, CMN hospitals treat 17 million children for every disease and injury imaginable. There is a CMN hospital in every community across America and Canada and a number of hospitals are in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

On Thursday we went to the golf club and had breakfast before I played. I got off to a bad start on the back nine of the Palm course. I hit a couple of loose shots but didn't warrant being 4 over at the turn, I worked really hard and made four birdies on the back nine to finish the day on level par. It was a very long round of golf, the front nine took over three hours. We went straight back to the hotel for a quick shower before making our way to La Nouba, the Cirque du Soleil show which was amazing, not only were there acrobats but they had people doing tricks on bikes and trampolines as well as the high wire. I love these shows and can't wait to see another one.

Friday was an early start as I had a 7.35am tee time, but it was delayed by 15 minutes, as there was some fog. I played really well and managed to get myself to 2 under par but I knew the cut would be low after the first days low scoring and kept pushing for more birdies. The couple of birdies that I wanted and needed didn't come and my year on the PGA tour ended two days earlier than I had hoped. After some lunch, I took everyone to the Magic Kingdom, as my Mum has always wanted to see the castle. We got to see a show and we walked through the park, we even visited Mickey and Minnie's houses, I particularly liked there fridge was full of cheese and nothing else! We found a good spot to watch the parade and another in front of the castle for the firework display.

On Saturday we got up early and went to the Animal Kingdom, we were there as the gates opened and made our way straight to the Lion King show before going to the safari. This was really impressive as the animals were so close; there were cheetahs, elephants, lions and rhino. We then went on a trek and came across a big gorilla fast asleep; there were also Komodo dragons and tigers. After a quiet afternoon we went to Downtown Disney to the House of Blues restaurant and sat overlooking the lake for dinner, we then took the water taxi across the lake to the shops.

Sunday I got up and drove to the airport to collect my new hire car and then had to take my courtesy car back to the golf club. We then drove to Jacksonville as we are going to play TPC Sawgrass tomorrow. We spent the afternoon on the waterfront, where we enjoyed some lunch while listening to a live band in the square.

I would like to thank everyone for their support this year, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the PGA tour. My experiences on and off the golf course have been great. I am going to have a couple of days holiday before going home and start my planning for next year. I will keep updating the site and let you know what is going on. My dream of keeping my card didn't happen this week, but my Mum got hers with her trip to Disney and John will get his tomorrow at Sawgrass.
