I went to Matfen for a lesson with John on Monday, we spent a few hours hitting balls and putting. We spend the majority of our time together chatting about my golf and refining certain parts of my swing. It is so frustrating that it is always the same couple of faults that creep back into your swing and silly that you never notice them. John had his dog Romeo at the range and he sat patiently behind my bay, he usually runs after the balls.
I had a few drills to work on at home during the week; often you can improve things by working on the muscle memory rather than just hitting balls. I also worked on my darts and pool skills.
Thursday was quite a busy day, I had some friends over to my house in the morning, as they hadn't been over since I first moved in it was nice to show them the changes I have made. I went out for dinner with my coach John and his wife Jo and a couple of other friends we had a good laugh with John and Edgy entertaining us with their funny stories.
I had another lesson on Friday lunchtime and then drove down to Birmingham. It took five and a half hours to get there instead of the usual three and I have no idea what caused the traffic jam, but it took over two hours to go four junctions at one point! I went to my friend's house for dinner and was treated to a secret family recipe of meatballs and pasta.
We were up early on Saturday as we went to Mallory Park for a day of racing around a track. It was a Christmas present from my friend JC and he came along too, we had to book it for this weekend, as it was the only dates I could guarantee I would be home earlier in the year. We had a fantastic day, the weather was hot and the cars were fast. We were given a safety briefing and a set of overalls when we first arrived and then were driven around the track by an instructor who showed us the racing line and the do's and don'ts. We then drove with the instructor in the passenger seat of the BMW Alpina; he graded you on your driving ability and advised you on improvements. After this we had another briefing in the pits for the Lotus single seater, we then got to go around the track, you were supposed to have four laps and then come in, JC managed to stay out for a couple of extra ones. It was a thrilling experience and we are already planning our
next driving adventure.
I drove home on Saturday night and spent Sunday morning printing the last few things for my golf day on Wednesday. Everything is now in place for my golf day and all I can do is keep my fingers crossed that the weather stays dry so the course will be open. A few charity days had to be cancelled due to the flooding last week and I hope we can avoid that. I hope everyone will have an enjoyable day and we can raise a lot of money for Marie Curie and the Alzheimer's Society.
