Home From Home
I played with Richard S Johnson and Ted Purdy in the
Northern Trust Monday qualifier at Industry Hills on
Monday, my round of 4 under wasn't low enough to get
to play in the event, the course was hilly enough for
Bambi to have to use the pencil bag. I drove back to
San Francisco after I had finished playing to revisit
Alcatraz with my friend John, I couldn't believe how
much warmer it was from when I was there 10 days ago.
We had a great day visiting the sites and shopping.
Wednesday was a travel day back to Florida, My flights
were delayed and I didn't get into Tampa until nearly
2am. It was so nice to get back into my bed at my home
away from home. Randy and Fionnuala make me feel so
welcome that it is like being at home, even Whisky
their dog seems pleased to see me. Thursday was a day
of laundry and organising paperwork, we went to my
favourite restaurant in Lakeland Ciao Bella for a
great chicken parmigana. It makes such a difference to
be able to spend time with friends and not be in a
hotel all of the time and I think this will be one of
the factors that keeps me happy and enjoying my time
in America. The main difference this year will be how
long I am away from home, in Europe I would usually
come home on a Sunday night and have atleast one day
at home most weeks, if only to do my laundry and leave
again. In recent years I wouldn't have been away for
more than four weeks at the most. I have been away
for five weeks already and have atleast three more
events to go before I will get a chance to go home to
Newcastle.
The weather has been perfect in Lakeland this week; I
played 9 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday in
75-80' better still I was in a cart and with good
company. On Saturday, Sergio played with us; he is so
funny he gives a running commentary of the game,
especially his own shots!
Sunday was an early start to catch a couple of flights
to Cancun. Hopefully I will have a good week as at
the end of the week there is a re-rank based on
players position on this years current Order of Merit
and this may effect which events I can play in over
the next few months.
I would like to take this opportunity to announce the
Ferrie Foundation Golf day for 2008, it will be held
at Matfen Hall on Wednesday 17th of September. Marie
Curie Cancer Care will be one of the recipients of the
money raised and I will announce the other charity
soon.
