After three flights I ended up arriving in the Czech Republic and headed straight to my hotel. I went up to the course on Tuesday morning and after hitting balls on the range I headed out to play. I joined Gary Boyd, who I played with for the first two rounds of the tournament, he had a great week and ended up getting beat in a play off. James Morrison also played with us in pracatice, I hadn't played with either of them before but was very impressed, the number of good young players coming through is amazing and definitely makes me feel like an old man!
The first 33 holes of the tournament were very frustrating as I played good but couldn't get anything going and then I finished eagle, birdie, par which got me up on to the leaderboard and into a good position for the weekend. I played average over the weekend and did pretty well to shoot a 73 and a 74, on Sunday I was three over after three! I finished 20th for the week which was slightly disappointing after the first two rounds but a tournament is over 72 holes.
The Tour chartered a plane from Ostrava to Edinburgh on Monday morning which was a huge help to be able to get to Gleneagles the same day, after a bus journey we got to the course just after lunchtime.
I went to the course early on Tuesday morning to get out before most people arrived and before the bad weather that was forecast came in. I jumped around the course to miss some other groups and ended up playing 12 holes, it's a course I have played many times so it was more just about getting the feel of the course.
I worked with Phil from Titleist on Tuesday and Wednesday on a new set of irons and ended up with a set of 710 CB with 7.0 rifle shafts, which are slightly stiffer than my old set of AP2's. I played good on Thursday but didn't make many putts and ended up shooting 71. Friday was a bit of a struggle and I ended up a couple over and just missed the cut again. The new irons went straight into my bag and were very good and an improvement on my previous set. I drove home on Friday night and had the weekend there before driving back up to Scotland on Sunday night.
The European Tour Players Foundation had a pro am at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick on the Monday morning, I played last year and the day was a success and I had been looking forward to playing again. Although my team didn't win we had a good time and managed to have a laugh on the way round. The day managed to raise a good amount of money for some worthy causes.
I decided not to play Switzerland and had the week at home practicing and getting ready for quite a busy end to the season.
