I enjoyed watching the Olympics, it was very addictive it's a shame that most of the medals were won while we were sleeping as it was much more exciting to see the drama unfold. I was particularly impressed with Chris Hoy and his three gold medals, and of course Usain Bolt. I have already started to try and sort out some tickets for 2012 as I think it's going to be hard to get them.

I went to see the England U21's football team play at Hull on Tuesday night against Slovenia, it was a mostly one sided game, goals from Micah Richards and James Milner helped the team to a 2-1 win.

On Wednesday I tried to play at Matfen but the course was closed because of all the rain we have had, I ended up on the driving range for a couple of hours.

Newcastle United played against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon and I was there, I enjoyed the game, the ground was jumping before kick off after a rendition of Blaydon Races by an Opera singer walking around the pitch waving a NUFC flag.

On Sunday I played in The Rock Junior Pro-Am, my team was Lewis from Linden Hall, Joseph from Heworth and Ed from Hexham golf club. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and hope the boys did too. We finished at 13 under as a team and won 2nd prize, which was great. Each of the boys all impressed, Joseph won the long drive, Ed made a fantastic par, nett birdie on the tricky 17th and Lewis hit some impressive fairway woods especially the one into eighteen, and most importantly they were all really good fun and well behaved. It was great to see so many kids playing golf and enjoying it, hopefully there were some budding stars amongst them.

I was asked to present the prizes and was particularly happy that my coach John Harrison won the pro prize with a great round of 7 under par. At the presentation I bumped into an old friend, Bill Murray, he used to run the North region coaching sessions when I was an amateur, he went on to be President of the English Golf Union. He is a lovely man and it was nice to catch up, he was there with his two grandsons who were playing in the Pro-Am.

I am playing in The Rock this week, a 54 hole event held at Matfen Hall, hopefully I will play well and the weather will stay as nice as it was today for the Pro-Am.

I'd like to thank everyone who has bought a lottery ticket for my foundation and if anyone else would like one please contact me as there is less than a month to go before the draw.
