I arrived at the K-Club at 1am on Tuesday Morning after 36 holes at Sunningdale on Monday, unfortunately 2 rounds of level par was not good enough to qualify for this years Open Championship.
As a past tournament winner I had a lovely room in the K Club hotel where I was well looked after all week. The course was saturated from the recent bad weather and as a result a number of holes were shortened and the length of the course was reduced to 6,600 yards. The most significant change to the course was on the 18th, usually a 578 yard par 5 it was converted to a 162 yard par 3 as the landing area was unplayable. This also reduced the par of the course to 70.
Another disappointing week on the golf course, I didn't hit the ball as well as I have been and didn't manage to get my score going. The weather was wet and windy all week. Thursday was a lunchtime start with Sandy Lyle and Anthony Wall. After a poor front nine I was pleased to pick up two birdies on the back, to finish with a 4 over 74. Friday morning was the same score but was made up of 14 pars and 4 bogeys, 2 on each nine. Not good enough to make the cut so a weekend off.
Monday was spent at Pulman Volkswagens charity golf day at Chester le Street, the weather was lovely and we had a great day. I played nicely with a 63, and my team managed to win.
I am looking forward to this week's event at Loch Lomond, it is always nice to be back in the UK playing and being able to drive to an event. Loch Lomond is one of my favourite events on the calendar, the course is more suited to my game, the hotel is fantastic and the views are amazing, fingers crossed we get some summer weather.
