Sorry to the regular readers of the website for the lack of updates in the recent weeks, I've been hectic with tournaments and organising my charity golf day. This update will be a brief round up of the last few tournaments.
The Spanish Open and Italian Open were much the same, the weather was the main talking point, rain delay after rain delay... the weather was so bad in Italy that the event was cut to 54 holes! I played well both weeks without much really happening and I finished mid table. I was happy with my game and had high hopes for the coming weeks.
Marbella was the next stop on the tour... it was to be a short one for me, I shot +2 for the first two rounds and missed the cut. The standard over the last few years on tour has improved so much and you don't really need to do too much wrong to not be playing over the weekend.
The Irish Open was a hard week, 7500 yards with thick rough and strong winds. At times on tour luck of the draw makes a huge difference... being off late on Thursday and early Friday was the best way around this week, I was the opposite! Roughly only a quarter of the players who made the cut were on my side of the draw and thankfully I was one of those. The weekend was spent hacking out of rough and failing to get up and down... or at least that's how it felt. I finished at the bottom of those who made the cut but again I played all 4 rounds, might not sound much but every round you play helps.
I had high hopes for Wentworth, my game had been really good and my putting had been showing signs of improving. Practice went really well and with a par birdie start on Thursday I was off and running... but that was about as good as it got, I started missing fairways which led to more problems. I had to make do with a weekend off in Windsor doing some sight seeing! Seems to be the way in golf when everything seems perfect your game leaves!
The Wales Open was the strangest week, 5 under for the last five on Friday to make the cut, 4 over after five on Friday and finished shooting 65! I had half a chance on Sunday but all week couldn't get the hang of the first five or six holes. It was nice to get something going though, I've had a huge lack of birdies lately and this has been making it hard to score well, last week I had three eagles and fourteen birdies. The highlight of the week was a hole in one on Saturday, 215 yards uphill on the eighth, I hit a good 3 iron that pitch and holed in. That's the third I've had on tour and still no car! On Sunday I lipped out on fifteen for another one, like I said... a strange week!
Overall I'm really happy with the way I am hitting the ball, I've been in the top 10 for greens in regulations this year and feel this is a good guide to how I'm playing. I am hitting loads of fairways and greens but just not getting my share of putts... patience is the key, not something I used to be good at but am slowly getting there.
On another note, I've been busy organising my own golf day to launch The Ferrie Foundation later this year in September, it is something I have wanted to do for a few years now and finally got round to doing it. It will be held at Matfen Hall on September 3rd taking a pro am format, more info will be added to the foundation page as we finalise more details.
Check back next week for a preview of the US Open and a round up of what I've been up to this week.
Keep the questions and comments coming...
