It was nice to be able to fly direct from Newcastle to Holland and to a course I like, I have only played at Kennemer G&CC once before but I really enjoyed the course and I always enjoy the KLM Open as everyone makes you feel so welcome. The weather was very hot at the start of the week but got a little cooler and windier as the week went on.

Zandvoort reminds me of Blackpool, a seaside holiday town and the course as it is near the coast has a links feel to it, as it's firm and bouncy. I got off to a shaky start to my first round as I was 2 over after five holes but as I keep talking about me being patient, I was rewarded for my patience, I birdied 4 of last 5 holes to finish the first round at 4under par which was a good score and right up the leaderboard.

I played nicely in the second and third rounds with scores of 3 under par 67's in each round. Although I was 10 under after three rounds and in a good position I had still left a number of opportunities out on the golf course, especially around the greens where I had played a couple of clumsy shots.

Sunday was just one of those days, I three putted the first for bogey and didn't get up and down from just over the green on the second and dropped a couple more shots from a couple of average shots around the turn. I finished my round with a 75, which was poor. To not have played that badly but to fall down the leaderboard was disappointing, but to it was still a top 30 finish and I had three very good rounds to take away from the week, which is moving forward from the start of the year. Simon Dyson won in a play off, Dys has had success there before and as a little bit of trivia, his caddy Guy was working for me when I beat Peter Lawrie and Peter Hedblom in a play off to win the Spanish back in 2003, so I'm not sure if it is me and Simon or Guy who knows how to beat them.

I played in the European Tour Charity Pro-Am at the Renaissance Club at Archerfield on Monday. It was a two hour drive from home and I was lucky enough to get drawn with Alan Shearer's team, so it was a local draw. Our team didn't win any prizes but we had a good day. The highlight of the day was seeing Lee Slatery's caddy Stevie try on a Newcastle United shirt. Stevie is an avid Sunderland fan and all of the players chipped in to make a donation to the charity for him to do it, this shows what a big heart Stevie has as you could see the pain on his face even touching the shirt!

I missed the tournament at Gleneagles as I got married on the Saturday. We were lucky to get a beautiful day in Newcastle and everything went well, it was nice to see so many of our friends from around the world. As everyone says the day flew by but was well worth all of the planning.

After spending Sunday with our friends, Monday was business as usual we flew out to Geneva via Heathrow followed by a couple of hours on a train and 30mins in a car, arriving at our hotel late in the evening. Crans-sur-Sierre is in the most beautiful setting; mountains surround it with views into the valley. At certain times the clouds are below you!

I played a practice round on Tuesday with Danny Willett to refresh my memory, as I haven't played at Crans in five or six years. After some practice on Wednesday morning we headed up the mountain on the cable cars to see the glacier.

I'm not a fan of the redesign of the greens as the course is very tricky with upside down saucers for most greens, and this didn't change during my two rounds there this week. I played nicely the first day and finished one over par. Before teeing off on Friday I knew I would need a low score to make the cut, just as we got out onto the course the weather turned and the poor weather that had been forecast for the morning arrived, the wind was gusting and the temperature dropped to where you knew you were in the mountains. I didn't score very well and missed the cut.

I spent Sunday traveling to Cologne for this weeks Mercedes-Benz Championship. I am looking forward to a good week and some good play.
